Step 1: Upload Your Video to Canva

First things first, you need to get your podcast video into Canva. Here's how:

  1. Head to Canva: Open your Canva account (if you don't have one, it's free to sign up!).

  2. Create a Design: Click on the "Create a design" button in the top right corner.

  3. Choose a Video Format: Select a video format that suits your target social media platform. Popular choices include:

    • Instagram Story/Reel/TikTok Video (1080 x 1920 px): Perfect for vertical, full-screen viewing.

    • Instagram Post (Square 1080 x 1080 px): A classic for the feed.

    • LinkedIn Video (Wide aspect ratios like 1280 x 720 px or 1920 x 1080 px work well): Adapt to the platform's recommendations.

  4. Upload Your Media: In the Canva editor, click on "Uploads" in the left-hand sidebar. Then, click the "Upload files" button and select your podcast video from your computer.

Step 2: Trim and Extract the Best Moments

Now for the fun part – finding those engaging snippets!

  1. Drag and Drop: Once your video is uploaded, drag it onto your chosen design. It will appear on the canvas.

  2. Use the Timeline: At the bottom of the editor, you'll see a video timeline. This is your best friend for trimming.

  3. Drag the Handles: Drag the left and right handles of the timeline to select the portion of the video you want to keep for your clip. Aim for short, impactful segments (think 15-60 seconds, depending on the platform).

  4. Split and Delete (Optional): If you want to extract multiple shorter clips from different parts of the video, you can use the "Split" button above the timeline to divide the video into segments. Then, simply delete the parts you don't need for the current clip.

Step 3: Enhance Your Clips with Canva's Magic

This is where you can really make your clips stand out:

  1. Add Text: Use Canva's text tools to add captions, quotes, episode titles, or calls to action. Choose engaging fonts and styles that match your brand. Consider placing the most important text in a prominent position.

  2. Include Emojis and Graphics: Emojis can add personality and visual interest. Canva's elements library is packed with graphics, stickers, and illustrations to enhance your message.

  3. Brand It: Incorporate your podcast logo, brand colors, and any other visual elements that help with recognition.

  4. Add Background Music (Optional): Canva has a library of royalty-free music you can add to create a more engaging atmosphere. Be mindful of the volume so it doesn't overpower the spoken content.

  5. Use Animations (Subtly): Canva offers various animation options for text and elements. Use them sparingly to draw attention without being distracting.

  6. Consider Progress Bars or Captions: For longer clips, adding a progress bar or automatically generated captions can improve engagement and accessibility. Canva has apps and integrations that can help with this.

Step 4: Download and Share Your Stunning Clips

Once you're happy with your masterpiece:

  1. Click "Share": In the top right corner, click the "Share" button.

  2. Select "Download": Choose "Download" from the dropdown menu.

  3. Choose the Right Format: For social media videos, MP4 is generally the best format.

  4. Download: Click the "Download" button, and your clip will be saved to your computer.

Now you're ready to share your captivating podcast clips across your social media platforms and watch those listener numbers grow!
